Amman, Feb 4 (Petra) – The Senate's Energy and Mineral Resources Committee, headed by Senator Farouk Heyari visited the Senate Energy Committee visited the Samra Electric Power Co. (SEPCO) on Wednesday.

The visit is part of institutional partnerships and the committee's role in monitoring the performance of the electricity generation sector and its capacity to meet peak and growing demand, which hit a record 4,800 megawatts last summer.

"The visit is to check first-hand on the company's operations and plans to maintain conventional and renewable power generation plants, which fall under its responsibility according to its strategy, and in line with the programs and projects of the economic modernization vision, as well as enhancing the grid's reliability," Heyari said.

SEPCO Vice Chairman Abdul-Fattah Daradkeh said the company accounts for about 31 percent of Jordan's total electricity generation, adding it saw remarkable growth across various operations, positively impacting financial results.

The company's General Manager, Sami Zwatten, gave an overview of its strategic objectives, key achievements, and projects aimed at enhancing generation efficiency and ensuring continuous supply under all circumstances, including the fogging system.

He said the company owns several power plants with a total production capacity of 2,224 megawatts, utilizing a mix of conventional fuels and renewable energy.

Zwatten further said the company won numerous awards for excellence and international quality certifications (ISO), noting the efforts of staff to sustain production since its establishment in 2004.

Members of the Senate committee spoke about the company's role in developing the electricity generation sector, raising efficiency, and promoting reliance on an electrical infrastructure capable of efficiently and sustainably meeting growing demand.
